Retail Display Shelves Best Practices

Today’s post celebrates a few stores that are “getting it right” with store display shelves. Stay display inspired!

London Avenue Designs in Rockford, IL.

I love the shelves at London Avenue Designs in Rockford, IL. The unit is a beautiful design and ideal for the layout of the space and size of the wall. The placement of products is strategic – note the use of multiple (mostly in threes) and the use of plants. The branches are a focal point to catch customers’ attention and pictures inside the frames draw them in for a closer look. Heavy and bulky items on the bottom shelves anchor the display and the smaller items are neatly placed at eye level and within reach. This is a lovely store display fixture and the tall ladder to the left is a nice touch, too!

Message pillows are best displayed more like signs or artwork, as shown at The Art of Home in Cambridge, Ontario. Side by side, the matching shelf units feature a nice mix of soft lines with a few home decor products mixed in for visual interest. Art of Home Cambridge, Ontario, visual merchandising, retail store, store displays, retail design

Did you notice the “We Customize” pillow? Bravo! Nice touch. No sign needed.

Keeping an Eye on Retail. Literally.

A recent visit to a local eyeglasses studio reminded me of a conversation about Warby Parker and their beautiful retail concepts. I thought you might enjoy seeing a few of the stores and how the retail designers celebrate each geographic location while staying true to the brand. Stay display inspired!

Warby Parker Scottsdale, Arizona

Warby Parker celebrates a love of books in most of their locations and this Scottsdale store is no exception. The attention to lighting is superb and I’m a big fan of the terrazzo tile floor in this location.

The Miami location is a tribute to Florida colors and the “pool” references are truly on-point!

Warby Parker San Francisco, California

Known for the use of murals, the exterior design of Warby Parker on Hayes Street in San Francisco is iconic in the area. This location features a cozy reading nook and stocks periodicals sourced from independent presses.

Branching Out: Store Displays

Birch_A_title_image It’s hard to think of a display trend more prevalent than the use of birch in visual merchandising this past year or so. I’ll share a few of my favorites from the collection of images I call Branching Out. Enjoy and stay display inspired!

Visual Merchandising Tips and Displays at AmericasMart

I’m just back from AmericasMart and excited to share a few fun displays. The wholesale trade show booths and showrooms are wonderful sources for creative display ideas and the Atlanta show never disappoints!

ChickeeBoom Road Runners Americasmart

ChickeeBoom jewelry display in the Road Runners LLC showroom at Americasmart

I was on the hunt for interesting display backdrops and this one from ChickeeBoom in the Road Runners showroom caught my eye. I like how the damask pattern is broken up with a wood insert for visual interest and pattern relief which keeps it from looking too busy. The trick with displaying jewelry – and other small items – is to draw the customer closer so they can clearly see the product.

I love bold graphics on a back wall to draw customers into the store or in this case, into the showroom. Color is key to this cohesive story in the Spartina 449 showroom at AmericasMart.

Heartstrings Jewelry at Grace Direct Bridgewater

Heartstrings Jewelry – Grace Direct showroom

The state-shaped boards in the Heartstrings window feature the new state collection. The Grace Direct/Bridgewater Candles showroom is well-known for their creative displays. Visit the Retail Details social media sites to see more from this showroom.

Gleeful Peacock booth AmericasMart

State-themed charms are cleverly displayed on a large easel map in the Gleeful Peacock booth. I zoomed in to show the chalk graphic indicating these as Best Sellers. Customers want to know what’s “hot”. This is especially effective in gift stores where customers are looking for gift suggestions.

Thanks to AmericasMart for awesome hospitality and a great show, as always. Next stop for me is Las Vegas Market, followed by NYNOW. I hope to see you there. Join me for a seminar in Vegas and a panel of retail experts in NY.

Stay display inspired!
